The Soho Swagger

I love Soho. I love it so much that I wrote my final year university dissertation about the place.

Soho is where I took my first ever job working for a restaurant PR in a tiny one room office on Brewer Street, in those days we faxed press releases to reporters.

Soho is where I fell in love for the first time; it's where I met two of my life long girlfriends and where I have had some of my most important, career defining moments. And the food, well...that's for another day.

Above all else, Soho gives me great people watching. People of all shapes and sizes seem to strut up Old Compton and Dean Street, it's the law - everyone just knows. There is nowhere on earth that has the same vibe - it's a performance but everyone feels they have a part to play.

The 'Soho Swagger' is a welcome antidote to the 'Oxford Street Shuffle' adopted by over eager shoppers whose pace has been impaired by a visit to Primark resulting in an average person to massive brown paper bag ratio of 1: 4. They get on your nerves too, right?

Hearing that one of the original dens of Soho is set for closure marks a serious step change in Westminster Council's planning ambitions and a desperately sad end to an era...that's unless we do something about it Save Madame Jo Jo's . If Madame Jo Jo's goes where else are you going to find yourself at the end of the night when no one else is going to let you in because you're not on the guest list. Even Benedict Cumberbatch is on this crusade Cumberbatch loves a cabaret

Yesterday, I spent my last day as a full time, paid up company employee in my office in Soho Square. Ending my career chapter there felt somewhat poetic and absolutely perfect. I just hope the next time I visit Soho she'll still be the one I love.
